The Cleaven Gene

Now rehabilitated, Amber, gifted with feeling the emotions of others, counsels the inmates on a prison ship which houses those with the violent Cleaven gene. Jaden, also rehabilitated and a mind reader, skippers the boat that delivers prisoners to the ship. When the prisoners rebel and an explosion holes the ship, together they battle the elements and a cold-eyed prisoner with Amber in his sights.

The presence in Amber of the Cleaven gene means that torment is her constant companion. She is recruited by the police to scour through police files looking for tell-tale signs of others similarly inflicted. In a police report, Amber identifies the perpetrator as a possible target. She plunges into a nightmare with a gifted opponent who turns the chase into a game of kill or be killed.
