It was the biggest art theft ever with 19 paintings by master artists, valued at 20 million British pounds. The thieves, led by Rose Dugdale entered the private home of a millionaire South African gold miner near Wicklow, Ireland. The date was April 26, 1974. Rose made sure that her four male accomplices stole the most valuable paintings including the only privately held work by Johannes Vermeer.
