The poem ends with the bard urging us to demand participatory democracy from our increasingly authoritarian governments, and begins with the end of the only true golden age our world has seen - the time before civilization's scourges began to afflict humanity with seemingly endless suffering. Civilization has been a catastrophe, all propaganda and wishful thinking aside, and it needs a re-think.
