He wiped his forehead with the back of a grimy hand and squinted against the sun’s unrelenting glare. Wavy steam rose from the packed asphalt. Digging graves was hard work, especially at midday in the desert. The shovel groaned, shuddered and strained as he rammed it into the unyielding earth beneath the cracks in the asphalt. The body was starting to smell ripe. He needed to work faster now. 
Blood, hair and pink clumps were starkly silhouetted against the glowing midday sun as the shovel flew into the air and landed on the pickup’s bed, ready for its next journey.
