The Ebony Cat

He was a silky little kitten
When he arrived that winter day
With whiskers long and frosty
That framed his smiling ways.

He was a frisky little kitten
Who ran like a black jet
Pouncing and not thinking
Landing happily without a net.

He was a playful little kitten
Tossing his plaid catnip mouse
Racing to catch that rodent 
Chasing it around the house.

He was a handsome little kitten
With a shiny blackened coat
He sparkled in the sunshine
He was never one to gloat.

He was a loving little kitten
That ebony feline of mine
He purred like a roaring motor
Giving me sweet kisses all the time.

He was once a little kitten
But now a wise elder cat
He basks in rays of daytime
For hours taking naps.

He was once a little kitten
My senior fellow now
He continues to reward me daily
With those ebony kitty smiles.
