Knit Hat with Vertical Zigzag Design

Materials:
Medium or #4 weight yarn
Size 8 needles or to match gauge
Row counter (optional)
Gauge: 17 stitches by 24 rows equals a 4" x 4" square
Note: This is a pattern that I started over six months ago. I got most of it complete, but did not proofread it or do the final check on the chart to confirm that all the details are correct. I usually chart from the finished piece, not as I am knitting. I believe that many of the decrease were made working on the reverse side. I have included some photos of the details and the reverse side, but the hat looks very different on and off a head. Tension, especially around the “points” of the zigzag is crucial.
If you knit it in the round, with circular needle (removing the extra stitch on each end) the hat is probably reversible.
Please check the directions against the chart as you go.
