On July 2, 1948, three inmates attempted to break out of the most-feared and most-inescapable prison in the world: the Annokea Federal Prison in Bixby, Georgia.
Their plan was perfect. They seized one of the main cellblocks in minutes. They took three guards hostage. They made a deal with the warden. Soon they would be on the road to freedom.
And then it all began to fall apart.
