At full complement, the Reiziger research vessel could comfortably accommodate twenty crew and thirty-two passengers.
When she departed Cape Town on October 14th, 1985, for a private charter mission to the British overseas colony of St. Helena, the ship’s manifest listed eight crewmembers, seven scientists and one dog.
Four days after departure, all communication with the Reiziger ceased.
