On that day the first combat flown from the liberated Poland by an aircraft resplendent in Polish national colors and manned by a Polish crew. From this time even though the PAF suffered a crushing defeat by the Luftwaffe due to lack of airplanes it survived the post-WW II communist era (producing Soviet designs) and is now part of NATO
