The airplane that established the Avro Company was designed in WW I by A V Roe the Avro 504 biplane trainer that was later adapted as a night-fighter for Home Defense. Subsequently a great number of Avro designs were the work of 'Roy' Chadwick who's first WW II twin R-R Vultee-engined bomber the Manchester was a failure that became the successful Lancaster with its post-war Lincoln and Shackleton
