On 3 May 1982 Avro Vulcan B.2BB (Black Buck) XM607 captained by Flt Lt Martin Withers from RAF Waddington having been forward based on Wideawake Island off the west coast of Africa in mid-Atlantic made the longest bombing run in the history of the RAF, supported by no less than 16 HP Victor in-flight refueling tankers to accomplish the mission -- bomb the runway at Port Stanley airfield.
