The Water Spirits is based on a true story about a woman who spent three nights with a medicine man, a nganga, in the Santa Monica mountains. She had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis which is referred to as a water spirit disease in Bantu medicine from Zimbabwe. What happened to Lucy during those three nights is miraculous and astounding.
