The January 12, 2010 disaster was preceded and followed by others. The earthquake, however, was the straw that broke the camel’s back. It seems to end a piece of history and to announce a new era. This event, a way of leading us into despair, a requiem or the confirmed death of the first black republic, is leading us instead to kairos.
