The ETPS was formed at Boscombe Down during WW II in 1943 with terms of reference to provide suitably trained test pilots for test flying prototype and new designs to evaluate them before they entered front-line service and produce 'Pilots Notes' and to draw attention to any limitations that need to be observed.
