The origins of Air Sea Rescue began in the UK in WW I using flying-boats operating out of RNAS coastal stations. In WW II the RAF Air Sea Rescue service as well as fixed-wing aircraft such as the Westland Lysander, Supermarine Spitfire and the purpose-built AW ASR Warwick that carried an air dropped lifeboat and RAF ASR launches were also used all these formed the basis of today's ASR CSAR
