"Doc," a famous New York psychiatrist, develops paranoid schizophrenia. He hears voices: Elvis, Nietzsche, Freud, etc. Escaping from his own clinic, he teams up with JJ, a spunky 25-year-old "retro-hippie" hitchhiking to San Francisco to find her father, and Stella, a sensitive but world-wise former Las Vegas stripper who's on her way to Monatana to claim a sheep ranch she won in a poker game.
