Walter Groebli met Percy Whittlesey on a road in Connecticut sometime in the early fall of 1940. Whittlesey adopted Groebli. He took him into his home to work as a houseboy. Little did Whittlesey know at the time but Groebli was virulently pro-Nazi. He came from an Atlanta, GA family that came to the U.S. from the German section of Switzerland. Groebli also attended Bund meetings in New Jersey.
