Post WW II Saab's J29 was soon needing replacement and the air force and the Swedish government agreed on developing an indigenous design which gave rise to a number of interesting airplanes and Projekts. Speeds up to Mach 1.4 were achieved with new double-delta wings when no supersonic aircraft existed anywhere in the world. Initial research ended in 1958 though the designs led to the JAS 39
