The RSRE was formed after Watson Watt discovered radar and set a 'Chain Home' of ground radar stations along the East coast of England so that the RAF could detect and plot the course of incoming Luftwaffe raiders. The RSRE went on to assist in the development of all new airborne radars and other avionics working in close collaboration with industry to develop and produce the latest equipment.
