Dick Hutcherson's specialty was dirt track racing. He got his first experience on the short tracks in the midwest before joining the NASCAR circuit in 1964. Hutcherson won the 1967 Dixie 500 and was among the top money winners in the three years that he raced in the Grand National division. He retired in 1968 to take a management job with Holman-Moody. He later went into business for himself.
Marshall Teague

Marshall Teague was killed at Daytona International Motor Speedway in 1959 while testing an Indy type car built in Terre Haute, Indiana. NASCAR President Bill France used Teague's trial run to gain publicity. The car began veering, crashed and broke in pieces that scattered as far apart as five football fields. Teague was clocked as fast as 160 on the last lap he completed before he crashed.
Glenn Fireball Roberts

Glenn Fireball Roberts was a frequent winner of stock car races and one of NASCAR's early heroes. He was voted most popular driver in the late 1950s by fans and was a good interview for reporters. His life ended after he was burned in a stock car race at Charlotte in 1964. My book reveals why it was easier for Junior Johnson and Ned Jarrett to survive the wreck than it was for Fireball Roberts.
Fred Lorenzen

My e-book was researched from Associated Press clippings of races that Fred Lorenzen competed in during the 1960s. Lorenzen, from Elmhurst, Illinois, was a different type of driver than the good ol boys on the NASCAR circuit. Racing weighed on his nerves and he later retired because of an ulcer. His dominance of supers speedway races was phenomenal. He retired in 1967 and became a crew chief.
Dewayne Tiny Lund

Tiny Lund was most successful as a driver in NASCAR's Grand American Series. He won 41 races overall as a driver in this division. In four different years Tiny won the Grand American Series overall title. His Grand National Division cars were largely underfunded although he drove for some elite owners like Bud Moore, Buck Baker and Lee Petty. Lund was killed tragically in a 1975 race at Talladega.

Speedy Thompson ran a successful family business called Monroe Welding in Union County, NC. Like his father and brother he chose race cars as his profession and raced in the modified and sportsman classes before going into Grand National NASCAR racing in 1950. My e-book was written largely from newspaper clippings that bring readers first hand accounts of vintage stock car races in the 1950s.
