Benjamin Michael Kauff was a controversial major league centerfielder. He was only 5'8" but possessed tremendous hitting power, especially to right field in the old New York Polo Grounds. Heralded as the "Ty Cobb of the Federal League", he signed with the NY Giants in 1916.. Benny's career ended prematurely in 1920, after he was banished from baseball by Commissioner Kennesaw Mountain Landis.
