During WW II German High Command decreed that neither the Army or Navy should operate aircraft of any type fixed or rotary-winged. But with the establishment of the 'new' Luftwaffe post-war it was decided that both the Army (Heeresflieger) and the Navy (Marineflieger) should have their own air arms to meet their specific needs with their types as suited to their specific requirements.
