Horror author C. Dennis Moore’s short story “Raw Materials” takes place in the forgotten town of Ockerville, Missouri when Simmons takes the wrong exit and finds himself lost in the maze of the town’s streets. As if the setting weren’t dismal enough with its junked out cars and houses with the siding ripped off them in places, when he stops to use the bathroom in a local restaurant, he comes back out to find a group of kids trying to scavenge his car.

Soon it’s not just a bunch of kids stealing his hubcaps, it’s the entire town chasing him down. Simmons doesn’t know what he did or what they’re after, but he’s not sticking around to find out. He finds himself on the porch of a junk dealer who offers him a place to hide in exchange for his story. The old man, Guthrie, has always been considered an outsider in Ockerville. Will he help a fellow in need, or do what he has to in order to finally prove himself to the people of his adopted hometown?

In the backup feature, “Become”, from the collection Icons to Ashes, Brian wakes up one night to find his dead girlfriend, Jennifer, tapping at his window. She tells him a story of trouble at her parents’ house and Brian has to come with her right away.

In shock, confused, a bit desperate, Brian follows her. He finds the trouble she promised, but he also finds a lot more than that. Bodies writhe on the living room floor while upstairs a dangerous man waits for Jennifer to bring him his dinner.
