Yes, Mark Coker's comprehensive Smashwords Guide is a wondrous thing, yet when I began wading through its encyclopaedic contents, I became a bit worried, began to doubt my ability to institute even the basics. Thus, I brooded, made a few notes, chewed my pencil into shreds wondering why so many thousands had absorbed this mighty work, and then confidently splurged off their pages enabling that Meatgrinder thingy to gobble up their novel without emitting a single burp....
Ah, but then I spotted a booklet called "Smashwords Style Guide for Idjits." by one Rebecca Melvin of Double Edge Press. I downloaded it, read it, experimented with its seven pages of instructions, understood it, and implemented her careful condensation of that voluminous Smashwords encyclopaedia into a workable format. Verily, 'tis good to regain ones confidence and to start whistling again.
So my many industrious bruise-fingered friends, if, like me, you just want to know how to implement the basic steps enabling your precious book to be formatted without needing all that other fancy stuff, this sensible little book for "simple text only books" by Rebecca is absolutely essential.
I am damned glad I found it. May heaven pour down a million blessings upon Rebecca Melvin!

Got the official style guide, read it through, tried to understand it, re-read my story, ... and mulled it over for a couple of weeks. Then I bought Rebecca Melvin's Guide for Idjits, spent a little time zipping through my story, and it was up and through the Meatgrinder in two days. Went to "Premium" on the first try, less than two weeks later. I'll be keeping this reference handy for my next story!

I found this method productive providing you stick strickly to the instructions and don't skimp on the small items in the manuscript text. Good for learning about word processing
the way formatting is used in Microsoft Word.

After trying to decipher Mark Coker's style guide I was not only on the brink of giving up publishing my novel online, I was also about to pull my hair out! That's when I found Rebecca Melvin's guide. She highlighted everything I needed to know and the steps were very easy to follow, my book went to premium status thanks to her. So if you're an idjit (like me) who's having an excruciating time with publication, save yourself from a stress-induced migraine and buy this book.

The Smashwords guide is incredible, however its a little too comprehensive for a simple text publishing.

Enter, Rebecca's Melvin Smashword Styles Guide for Idjts. One word: OUTSTANDING!

With her very easy step-by-step instructions, along with prayer, our story went premium on the first try.

We used her proven system again to publish another story.

Thank you Mrs. Melvin.

Tried Mark Cokers style guide to no avail. I couldn't figure out what he was trying to say. Was about to give up my idea of getting my stories published on my own until I found this guide. Thought I would give it one more shot before throwing in the towel and paying someone to format for me. $1.99 was cheaper than $35 so I bought Rebecca's idjit guide. I followed her steps and submitted my story. It went Premium on the first try. Second one went Premium today, again on the first try after using the Smashwords Style Guide for Idjits. Thank you Rebecca... from one very grateful idjit!
