Short description

Mony, a Canadian woman, begins a 5000-kilometer walk for peace, never imagining that, 13 months and 13 countries later, the walk only ever had one true destination-her inner self, the place from which peace in the world must emerge. Destiny weaves the tapestry of events to help her realize her dream, including Alberto, the Spanish mystic who would share her journey. This is their true story.

Extended description

The course of one’s life never unfolds quite as we imagine it would. While traveling to gain perspective on her life, Mony, a Lebanese-Canadian woman, feels called to walk an ancient path known as the Way of the Soul. She wavers, allowing her fears to drown out her heart’s yearning. Until 9/11.

Fate orchestrates all the necessary preparations, including an unexpected companion named Alberto, an Andalusian mystic whose ideas would challenge every preconceived notion Mony holds about peace, life and love. Their 13-month, 5000-kilometer odyssey across 13 countries would lead them physically to Jerusalem, but more importantly, to what was perhaps the intended destination all along: their true selves.

This remarkable true story reminds us that it’s never too late to listen to our hearts, that omens appear to guide us in our journeys, and that following both will lead us to realize our dreams and fulfill our destinies. (Read more)

This book came to my attention during the Global eBook Awards ceremony, where it had a much-deserved win. While the authors could have taken the easy way out and written a travelogue about their walk from Rome to Jerusalem, they instead wrote frankly about the problems and blessings they encountered, as well as the metaphysical growth they underwent.

I often found myself putting my eReader down for a time in order to examine not only what had just happened in the book, but also my emotional reactions to it. What Mony and Alberto learned along the way had a great deal to do with human interconnectedness and the need to overcome prejudice ... something I find myself talking (sadly, sometimes in vain) with people in my circle, and something to which I am reminded that I still occasionally fall prey myself.

In any event, the two friends begin this lengthy walk at a time when both of them are free to travel for as long as they want or are able to do, and they find themselves challenged not only by weather, border crossings and religious belief but also by one another as their relationship deepens.

This is a beautiful, spiritual book that also happens to contain some of the most lovely travel writing I've ever had the pleasure of reading. Highly recommended.

Walking for Peace was an amazing journey of Spirituality, religion, mysticism, pilgrimage, commitment, hardships, loss, and love. I loved the way this book moved my Spirit. I felt I was traveling for Peace with Mony and Arturo, we all became the supporters and the followers of Peace. It made me realize so much about me, that Peace begins within and then it is shared through love and compassion. I'm Blessed to have read and shared Walking for Peace and I hope others will find the Peace and love they search for! Blessings. Silvia Bollinger

Walking for Peace was an inspiring story about two friends who frustrated with the rat race decided to abandon it and agreed to a challenge; walking across the European continent through 17 countries hiking along the path the apostle's and servants of the pass travelled seeking the mysteries of inner peace and question the unknown. Along their journey their beliefs are shatter and replace with strangers kindness and gifts of gratitude that brings tears and joy to their hearts and a new found knowledge of the spiritual truths.

The woman is bond to her beliefs deny all religious and faith beliefs stating she is walking only as a message that a person may change others inner thoughts and assist them to open their minds to the possibility of transforming the negative to the positive ideals and change the course of their destiny.

Mony is of Lebanon descent and was raised to be leery of all due to the conflict in the Middle East. She is skeptical and raised to be enriched with the simple pleasures of life; shelter, food, warmth and clothing; along her trek she is meet with obstacles that could of broke her will but acknowledges she needs to strip herself of all worldly opinions, beliefs and hurts and believe in her inner conscious to guide her to the right path of enlightenment and spread the message of peace.

The man, Alberto starts as a friend who is also called to abandoned the earthly realm and seek peace but also inner wisdom to the purpose of life and what is beyond the earthly realm. He walks as a pilgrim and declares his truth of finding the light, the Supreme Being inside each of another and to share it with others; break down the walls of hatred and distrust among the warring nations and people in general. There is conflict between the two characters which adds excitement to the story. This is a complex tale with many messages intertwined in the pages; the final message unconditional love will conquer all.

Strange coincidental here, I am a Mahoney too, from USA, supernatural is working here too. I really enjoyed this story.

Walking for Peace is a story of THE epic journey, the one to self. Written with integrity and honesty it offers a privileged insight into the writers very personal confrontation with herself. For anyone who perceives there is a path, but lacks the courage to take the first step, this story is a worthy travel companion. It is an honour to walk this part of the way with you.
