The title gives a clear indication of its tone. Annarita Guarnieri has been owned by a great many cats and has not only survived but thrived. She brings her vast experience to this informative and entertaining book.
The potential reader of any "how-to" book deserves to know who the target audience is. This book is indispensable for anyone first launching upon the great adventure of being owned by a cat. It provides a wealth of information, from the basic equipment needed to keep a cat in comfort to the meaning of verbal and body language signals.
The author also outlines the many differences between adopting a kitten (further distinguishing kittens who come from homes or animal shelters and those found abandoned) and adopting an adult cat. I noted with pleasure that she emphasizes the special rewards of adopting adult cats.
The experienced cat slave, however, can also learn from this book. I considered myself an expert dispenser of pills, but I learned some new approaches to this always-perilous task.
Finally, this book is worth reading for the many cat tales within it. If you are devoted to cats, you will find your devotion renewed by the portraits of and anecdotes about the author's feline companions. I highly recommend this book.

"Cats: Instructions For Use Or How To Survive Being Owned By A Cat" by Annarita Guarnieri is the first nonfiction book I have chosen to review. I was hesitant at first because my only relationship with cats has been through swollen eyes and sneezing. I have to admit that even though I don’t own a cat and never expect to own one, I was pleasantly entertained by the author’s illuminating descriptions of a life with cats. Not only was it educational for feline owners, whether newbies or veterans, it also provided through personal anecdotes a glimpse of the joys and yes, even the hurdles awaiting them.
Annarita is a native of Italy and having spent many years as an English/Italian translator, has developed a grasp of English phrasing that makes her writing easy to read. In this delightful book she has given a new twist to the typical “how-to” genre by drawing you into her own obviously blissful co-existence with her 34 cats.

Cats: Instructions for use or How to survive being owned by a cat by Annarita Guarnieri
There will certainly be people who pick this book up because they need or want what the title refers to – advice on being a cat owner. I am a long term, always one cat owner, but my cat always ends up thinking she’s one of the dogs. I digress. Here’s the thing:
For me, it wasn’t exactly that reason. I liked this book because I enjoyed entering Annarita’s world with all her cats and her stories, her ups and downs with them, and ultimately taking a glimpse at the loving bond that exists between her and her feline friends. As my own cat lay comfortably under my Kindle as I read Cats, I realized that I, too, have a very special friend. You can’t beat that!
You’ll get a nice, easy enjoyable read with Cats: Instructions…, and lots of information if you are or aren’t a cat owner. But you may get even more….

Are you looking to own a cat ? Then this is the book you need to read before doing so.
It contains everything you will ever need to know from deciding to get a kitten following through to adult life and the problems you could encounter, setting it apart from any other instruction book as the author has incorporated her own experiences, throughout the entire book, telling stories about the cats she has owned and giving examples as she goes along. This makes for a much more personal touch and for me, inspired confidence in her knowledge , showing that this wasn’t just a run of the mill instruction manual but written by a genuine cat lover with an obvious passion for the feline world , passing on to others, her vast experience.
To conclude: A comprehensive guide on cat ownership written in an interesting and easy to follow manner by an author who really knows her stuff and is very passionate with it .A must for a cat owner!
