Peter Ninnes has lived in Japan since 2007. In that time, and during a couple of earlier holiday visits, he has been fortunate to get to all 47 prefectures, climb 90 or so mountains, bathe in 220 different hot springs, remember a few more kanji than he has forgotten, lose count of the number of temples and shrines he has seen, and eat all sorts of stuff that he didn’t know was edible. Before coming to Japan, he lived in East Timor, Australia, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and the US.

With an impending trip to Japan I found this guide book very valuable. It is not only informative but the author's style is friendly and made me feel as if I had a personal guide to take me on the walks. The book has been well researched and I look forward to doing many of these excursions in the near future.
