About Ron Shillingford

The only subject I was any good at during my childhood was English, so becoming a world renowned novelist was the supreme fantasy along with achieving the typical sporty ones concerning World Cup football matches and world title boxing fights.
I've always had a profound love of the written word, whether creating, reading or analyzing. It's lead to an exciting career in journalism and three well received published books have come along the way: No Glove No Love (boxing novel), The Elite Forces Handbook of Unarmed Combat (martial arts) and From Prison to the Premiership (ghostwritten autobiography).
The next phase is writing ebooks which I am grateful to Smashwords for providing the opportunity to do.Judging by the intinial reaction to my work, I may have finally found my niche!

I love the direction you are trying to go with the cultural differences and challenges between the two main characters. This one has great potential, but the writing style makes it difficult to enjoy. At first I was put off by the statement, "as obvious as a darkies lips and nose," but when I got over the shock of such an offensive comparison I read more. I see where you are trying to go with this story, but unfortunately it doesn't quite get there. Writing style is extremely important; it is how you convey the crux of your story to the audience. Some of the essence of this one was lost in translation. With a little editing it could be much better.

the previous reviewer must be related to you, or in a real rush to get through the story!!
it had a lot of potential, unfortunately was completely massacred by the writing style!! were you TRYING to sound like some catalogue?!!
the characters weren't fleshed out. the plot left unexplored. it might as well have been told in 5 lines flat....
sorry, if i sound too harsh...but either leave"romance" noovellas to women...or stop tagging it as "romance"!!!

A really lovely heart warming short read, with enough twists and turns to keep you reading.
