Wolf is a boy caught between the conflicting cultures of his parents which threaten his very survival. His mother is a Saxon Christian noblewoman and his father is a Danish pagan Lord. Wolf is heir to his Saxon mother’s family realm which his father covets and as a Dane Warlord has no conscience about taking from his son. Wolf’s father plans to manipulate Wolf to escape to the priesthood when he comes of age. That alternative might save Wolf’s life but taking a vow of poverty will allow his father to usurp his inheritance. Wolf’s father has a back- up plan: use Wolf’s bastard brothers to kill him.

Wolf has no intention of going as a lamb to the slaughter or becoming a priest. He is not what he lets on and is a highly intelligent lad who understands the political intrigue and danger surrounding him.
