Bryan McCormack, author of the upcoming bestseller “Sell Your Self!”, was born on Friday 29th April 1966 in Ayr, Scotland. Six years later he would see Jon Pertwee as Doctor Who in the story “The Sea Devils” and become a fan of the show, which he remains to this day. But he never hid behind the sofa. Ever.
Educated at Heathfield Primary School – and later, Prestwick Academy – he started performing at the age of eight by winning a local schools competition to recite the poetry of Robert Burns. His best subject at school was always English but, discovering he had a talent for entertaining an audience, it was inevitable that he would become an actor. In the years that followed he gained extensive experience in stagecraft through school plays, ventriloquism, puppetry, magicianship, recitation, amateur dramatics, stage management, public speaking, debating and a stint in Hospital Radio.
After a brief stay in Inverness, he joined Cumbernauld Youth Theatre early in 1983 and over the next four years featured in plays as diverse as MacRune`s Guevara and Epsom Downs as well as several workshopped productions where he first began to develop his ability as a writer. Specialising in multiple comic character roles alongside stand-up comedy and musical cabaret, he performed his first one-man show, “Dracula Revisited”, ten days before his 18th birthday. It was during this time that he also did his first work as an extra in Televsion and recorded his first broadcast commercials on Radio. Having served his apprenticeship, he finally gained his Equity Card with Cumbernauld Theatre Company in their 1987 Pantomime “A Christmas Carol”.
As well as becoming an experienced voice artiste and accomplished public speaker to any audience of any size, the next decade would also see him living in Oxfordshire and, for a time, becoming politically active, where his ability to command and hold an audience`s attention proved beneficial. But when not working as an actor Bryan held down “proper jobs” in Customer Service and Sales. Experience in a variety of roles, including management, proved to him that his acting skills gave him an advantage when it came to selling that his competitors did not have. As a result, and with the encouragement of his good friend Rintu Basu, he wrote his first book, “Sell Your Self!”, over a three month period towards the end of 2009.
Bryan returned from Oxfordshire to Ayrshire in 1999 where he currently lives with his wife and his cat. When not acting, speaking in public or working on his other upcoming books he likes to relax by polishing his video-editing skills, playing his guitar and songwriting. He is the Meetings Co-ordinator for the Glasgow Who fan group.
