He reluctantly saves Mave, a former slave from another plantation, from rape, and then finds her determined to stay on at his place, since she has nowhere else to go. She is both smart and useful, and Bill finds that he is unable to rid himself of her. New horizons open that neither of them would have expected, and that neither can acknowledge.

Had this book for about a year before reading and when I started I couldn't stop. Really good and it had me laughing in places. Mave is a hot ticket and funny as all get out at time in what she would and would not do. Don't want to give it away but it is a worthwhile read. Ole Bill was a piece of work at times but it all worked out.
