About Phil Chandler

I discovered beekeeping as a result of my involvement with the anti-GM campaigns of the 1990s. Since then, bees have come under increasing threat from agricultural pesticides and from what many regard as inappropriate treatments with synthetic medications, resulting in widespread 'disappearances'.

In 2007, I wrote The Barefoot Beekeeper - my vision of what is wrong and what needs to change in our attitude and approach to bees. Since then, bees and beekeeping have occupied a great deal of my time and energy, none of which I consider wasted.

I hope my writing will inspire you to take up 'natural beekeeping'.

A very enlightening book. As a new beekeeper it was interesting to read alternative ideas on how to manage bees. I've started building my TBH already.

So far, I have not been able to make any version of this book work on an iPhone. Big disappointment after paying for it. Don't buy it on faith that it will work.

In a world where bee populations are crashing and the climate has begun to destabilize, both from Human-created issues, Phil's book is the definitive book on urban and natural beekeeping. His insight and analogies help demystify the bees and the world they help make better.

Inspirational! As a first-timer, I will be building a HTB hive this autumn ready to populate in the spring. This book is ssential reading for anyone who is new to "natural" bee-keeping. Have a look out for Phil's other publications too - and of course his podcast.
