I just finished the three follow ups on Sentence of Marriage, the live of Amy and Lizzie gripping. I have cried and laughed with each character and loved Frank and Dave.
Sarah is impressive a woman who knew what she wants and goes for it, she is a wonderful daughter to Amy. Beth in her own right is a strong woman understanding David and helps him to cope with the struggles within. her patience and love for him endearing and truthful.
Hope this is not where the stories ends.

"Mud and Gold", being the second book in the series, picks up from the first book "Sentence of Marriage". The story follows Amy's challenges as she tries to navigate married life.
I would love to take more time to write this book the review it deserves. Parkinson's writing style is simple, elegant and yet able to transport the reader directly into the minds of the people who populate the story. You feel the swells of happiness and the crushing despairs. His descriptions often touch on all senses- smells, sounds, sights, textures- without overwhelming the reader with unnecessary detail. The pacing is good: he's not afraid to follow Amy in her daily life for a few days and then allow time to pass so that subsequent events don't feel forced.
Definitely recommended. I hope there's more from this author in the future.

At times this book was very difficult to read because the abuse talked about hit a little too close to home, but I loved it just the same. As in the first book of the series - Sentence of Marriage - the author brings the characters to life in a way that makes me feel I know these people. Even though my e-reader has page numbers at the bottom of each page, I was so engrossed in the book that I was taken by surprise when it ended. Again I was thrilled to see that there is yet one more book in this series and ordered it the same day I finished this one. Thanks again, Shayne Parkinson, for another great read.

5 stars!!! I cannot say enough about his series. Truly spectacular, and worth re-reading again and again. Look out, Gone With The Wind, you have some serious competition!! My family is from New Zealeand, and it so wonderful to hear aout their lives in the 18th century. Jayne has done a fantastic job, and I have enjoyed every single page that has been written. Amy is a character that has been brought to life for me, as well as Lizzie, Jack, Suzzane, Charlie, Malcom, David and all the others. This book does not disappoint - wait until you read the last one - SETTLING THE ACCOUNT - you won't be able to put it down. I promise. I have recommended it to all my co-readers, but alas, it's not in print yet.
