I definitely recommend this book, as I was very impressed by the author's work. The characters were interesting and continue to pop up in my memory several weeks after reading the book. The plot was well-crafted. I read the book pretty much in one sitting, with only irritating interruptions from the real world. The people and their actions were described honestly, but thankfully without gratuitously graphic detail. One improvement I might suggest would be to even out the references to historical events (i.e. need some in the early chapters to balance out what's in later chapters). Even though I don't totally agree with the author regarding gay marriage, I have a great deal of respect for his talent as an author.
