SHADOWLAND by Mrinal Bose depicts the travails of a doctor stuck and burnt out in a corrupt-to-the-core and no-room-for-human-values political and social system.
Like Dr. Ajoy Mitra, I also don’t have any house of my own. May be this is why I can relate to him just easily. His concern and foreboding for self, family and his patients touch a chord. His insight into moral and social degradations around him is refreshing.
I have enjoyed the book. I especially liked his use of colloquial Bengali terms which have made the novel very lively. Apart from some minor lapses, it is a great story. I think it will move anybody who cares to read it.
