"It's mask night," Addy said, as she ran a comb through my auburn curls a final time. "No one's going to know who you are."

"Still." I wrinkled my nose at my reflection in her bedroom mirror. "I can't believe I let you talk me into this."

"It'll be good for you, Mary." She leaned over my shoulder to inspect her short bob. "You need to have more adventures."

She handed me a blue and gold half mask covered in feathers and sparkles. I took one last look at myself. Admittedly, my best friend had transformed me. She'd talked me into getting contacts, then the cosmetologist in her kicked into high gear. She added bangs and curls to my shoulder-length, strawberry-blonde hair. Then applied a thin layer of makeup to what I thought of as a plain face.

"You look hot. Come on," she said, grabbing my hand and pulling me to the front door.

"I wouldn't go that far. But I do look nice. Thanks. You're a good friend." I smiled.

She smiled back and rolled her eyes at me. "You can't take a compliment, can you? I'm surprised you just said you look nice." Handing me my coat, she giggled. "You're making progress."

She'd been my best friend since Grade 9. A fellow horror geek who also loved hard rock and Shakespeare. We were a perfect combination, and we got each other through the awkward stage, as well as those high school years we so hated.

Now, Addy Gerard wanted to take me to a sex club for my twenty-third birthday. Reluctantly, I'd agreed. But while a part of me was terrified to the point of panic attack, another part of me was thrilled by the forbidden delight she'd persuaded me to try.

"Oh dear god." I gulped and clenched my knees. "He's coming this way."

Addy leaned over and whispered, "You did nix the panties, right?"

"What?" I looked at her, and my heart beat faster when I saw her wicked grin. What was about to happen, possibly happen, hit me. My throat became unbearably dry.

She tsked at me. "Don't tell me you're still wearing them?"

"It's cold out," I stammered.

"Yes." She sighed. "And a thong will really protect you from the chill."

I waited too long to form a reply. He stood in front of me. Like the rest of the club's occupants, this dancer wore a half mask. His depicted a shiny gold devil with curled horns.
