About Eric Livingston

The Brandon Marlowe series is a story that I made up as I was moving from Oklahoma to Texas. The UHaul had no cruise control and storytelling made for good distraction from my stiff legs.

I started with the Spirit Snatcher, then the Alpha in the Omega, and the Darkness of the Light. The story has grown significantly from the original and I've become very fond of it. Recently, I've gotten preoccupied with other projects and such, so writing the fourth book has been slower. This is not something I do full-time, hence the option to buy the series free as I want readers more than anything. Although your money is always appreciated and welcome.

I've had relative success with Smashwords and at one point did break Top 100 Children's books on Amazon. This feat is made even more impressive due to my disdain of social networks. Nothing against the concept, it just feels like a chore to me.

If I were to see a future for my series outside of black and white I would love an animated series. If anyone out there knows a youtube/internet/comic individuals in need of a good story, have them contact me. I'd love to talk.

Eric Livingston's series is just the right medicine for those suffering from fantasy withdrawal. This series kept my children's noses (aged 10 to 17) in the pages and provided a great introduction to Greek mythology. The books are fast-paced and suitable for adults and children over the age of ten.

I do not usually read this kind of book, as I lean towards classical novels and westerns most times. However, I really did enjoy this as it was an easy read, yet continued to hold my interest. Have already downloaded the other two books in the trilogy and would recommend this fun book to anyone 12-50 years of age with an adventurous spirit and craving a light, enjoyable book.

This is definitely a must read. I had a lot of fun with it and found looking at the world through Brandon was done very well. Things are described as a young boy would see them, which makes for some very interesting descriptions.

This was a fun series with adventure and struggling youth. Even though it dealt with fantasy it still addressed some of the conflicts of today's young people.

I wish the series was completed already.

Review by: Louise Moran on Jan. 09, 2013 :
At first, Brandon Marlowe reminded me of Percy Jackson: weird, unexplained mythological things are happening in the world. Gods and one goddess rules the world, but mere mortals don't seem to know they are there.

But while there are fantasy similarities, the plot, characters, and descriptions stand on their own. The Greek mythology back-story is fascinating, and Brandon tells his own story (in first person) in an engaging way. He's funny, resourceful, brave, and real, someone the reader gets to know and care about. You really root for him to find out the secret behind his brother's disappearance.

I think my middle school students would really enjoy this book, and I will definitely recommend it to them. I look forward to the next in the series!

The Spirit Snatcher by Eric Livingston is a book about a boy named Brandon Marlowe who is now old enough to join a squad where he will be responsible for protecting the rest of humanity from the remaining Olympians.

It's a great book packed with adventures and Greek myths. If you like Greek myths or even some of the Greek gods you will love this book. To all of the people who don't like Greek myths: that doesn't matter. You will still love this book as much as anyone else. The myths and gods have been adapted to modern times so it's fun to figure out who everyone is. When I got close to finishing this book I was so glad to figure out that there was more. Again I say if you like adventures and want something new this is THE BOOK. When you finish make sure to read The Alpha in the Omega and The Darkness of the Light.

Greek Mythology is AWESOME, which makes this book awesome! After finishing Spirit Snatcher, I am really excited to see what else is going to happen in this series. I was interested from start to finish.

There are a lot of mythical creatures packed into this book, and I would not want it any other way. Tartarus seems like such a cool place too.

I really liked Brandon, he doesn't start off as young and naive as some other stories but there's still plenty new to him.

This was a fabulous book. My 10 (now 11) year old loved every second of it and I have to say, so did I. He is a "reluctant reader" who preferred non-fiction books to anything else. Now he says he loves fantasy books and it's because of this well-written, funny, exciting, "non-stop action with surprising turns on every page" book. We couldn't wait to read what was next every night.

My son has been anxiously waiting for the sequel(s) and I sincerely hope the author keeps on writing them and never runs out of interesting ideas! What a great book. Truly, this was as interesting for me as it was for him!

My son absolutely loved this book! The whole series so far, actually, and is ANXIOUSLY awaiting the next book. Mr. Livingston hit the perfect notes for young boys in Brandon Marlowe - a young boy, super abilities and skills, magnificent adventure, danger, mythical beasts and monsters, sword fighting, quests, kids doing things adults never let them do (g) - you name it, this series has it.

This is one of the more original fantasy books that I've come across in a while. It takes something that most people are interested in (mythology) and puts an updated fantasy spin on it. The premise is that the Greek gods are still active and up to their old tricks only this time there are humans who have inherited the abilities of fallen gods/titans, their job is to stop them. Brandon Marlowe survives this world, and unlike the PJ series this author makes no bones about the danger these people face. Very gripping, very fun.

Brandon's an enjoyable new type of character. He is a very bright boy who has power of the winds. His main motivation is solving the mystery of his brothers death/disappearance. More than anything, it appears to have given him an innate curiosity and desire to question the events surrounding him.

Overall, its a refreshing change of pace from the character motivated solely by some type of oppression or a bad guy forcing the character to be a hero. Not that I mind those types, it's just nice to have a little variety in protagonists.

I was ravished by the story. The book is told from Brandon's point of view, first person past tense. The conversations occurring in Brandon's head (he talks to his weapons) Overall, the style sheds a unique light on the inner workings of this developing character. I think it works. It keeps the mystery alive and the action tense for the reader.

This series is fascinating, action packed, and highly addicting. It's drags you in with mysteries and mythology and you keep thinking about it long beyond finishing the books. I hesitated for a while to read them because of the Percy Jackson books which have eclipsed the mythology market. These are far more interesting than anything Riordan has written.
