Sitting there in our new living room, I felt myself get wet. Frank’s first time with Kitty sounded like the first rush of an addiction. He wanted his wife so badly. Had Gerry ever felt like that about me?
My memory returned to the first time we’d made love. Crammed into his single bed when we were both students. The breathlessness. The physical need to see him again. Gerry pursued me just as insistently after he got me into bed as he had before. With his combination of flowers, poetry and volcanic sex, I hadn’t stood a chance.
But that was then. I thought about another attempt at pleasuring myself, but it would be even more embarrassing if Gerry woke up and caught me at it down here. There was no point reading more and getting all flustered. Not right now anyway. I shuffled the letters back into the box, wishing I could lock it.
If I went back to bed loudly enough, maybe I’d rouse Gerry. Then I could arouse him and get some satisfaction. I stuck the box behind the cleaning supplies under the kitchen sink and stomped upstairs. Opening the door, I let it crash against the bedroom wall and watched him draw his knees up under the covers. Not enough to to wake him up.
An idea began to form. I went to the bathroom and turned on the cold water tap. Then I held my hands under the freezing water for as long as I could bear.
Back in the bedroom, I stripped off and got under the covers. I only put one hand on his stomach and he jumped awake. He sucked in such a loud breath that I got the giggles.
I clamped down on the laughter enough to keep it silent, but he must have been able to feel me shaking.
“Jesus, Lou. Was that your hand?”
“Come here.” I snuggled under his arm and rested my head on his chest.
“How come you’re so cold?”
“I don’t know. Why don’t you warm me up?” I stroked his stomach through his pyjamas and he took my hands in his, rubbing them to dissipate the cold.
He wasn’t getting the message. “Is this better?”
I wrested one hand away and sneaked it down the front of his pyjama bottoms.
He jumped again, but he didn’t move my hand.
“How does that feel?”
