EXCERPT

A couple of weeks after he’d planted the thought of shaving in my head, we had another night of mechanical sex. We were in a rut - I couldn't get wet, he could barely get hard. There were no orgasms for either of us that night and I decided that I had to go for it; anything was worth a try if it could save our sex-life. The next day in my lunch hour, I went to the drugstore and bought the nicest old-fashioned single-blade razor I could find.

The handle was ridged and black, the head was shiny silver and engraved with filigreed patterns. Definitely a symbolic artefact, hopefully one that would help us turn a new leaf. I'd never thought that a razor could become a sex-aid.

I got some gift-wrap and wrapped it up - I even put a bow on it. When I went home that night I was trembling with excitement. When David got home, I was so wet with anticipation that I could have jumped him right on the doorstep. But I wanted to bide my time, to make everything perfect. I'd waited a long time for the prospect of some good sex; I didn't want to rush it. Here was a night when I could put all those sex tips I'd been reading about into practice.

When he went to bed, I got my little present out and looked at it in the low light of the sitting room. All my hopes for a successful marriage lay in the piece of metal I held in my hand.
