The America's Cup - it was such a big deal back in 1986-87. The Cup had been won by Australia II a few years earlier. Now we were going to win it back. The 'we' in this instance is the syndicate from San Francisco, the USA. Skipper Tom Blackaller at the helm. I was a lowly grinder - the low low low man on the totem pole. So, as you can imagine, I had quite a view. We had a truly revolutionary boat, the USA, with a front rudder and a big fat keel, as opposed to a winged keel. Fun was had, scary at times when the wind was hooting, and through it all a sizeable quantity of good Aussie beer consumed. Hope you like it, Brad.
