Second written, and second chronologically of the Mrddlers In Time series. Like the first, stays on the boundary between homage and fan fic, this time echoing the Weber/Ringo and Niven/Pournelle Empire of Man series. The author has improved his craft from the first book, without losing his eye for good plot.

The next book in the Meddlers series is more of a novella/short story than a true novel - a shame really, as it could easily have been developed into a very good continuation from book one of the series. Unfortunately the same is true of book three. Perhaps the author will combine books two & three and book four to make a longer, more intracate work. It would certainly make it more enjoyable, and would allow for some movement between adventures - this is a time travel series!
Now to the book - another good read and a good start on the history of the time travellers. It's fun to have interesting storylines and characters explored in greater detail though, so more time on this would have added to the story.
But all is not constructive criticism here! I still very much appreciate the character development and the thrill of the adventure. It takes a creative mind to dream this stuff up and Mr. Watson is indeed creative in dreaming the challenges and soltions.
Book two may not completely satisfy the reader's appetite, but it does serve as an adequate appetizer for book three.
