Swords and Scimitars is a 7,000-word short story (approximately 25 pages) about the immortal founders of verdant Teganne and desert Kad, two rival realms divided by magic--yet bound by blood, mistrust, and love. The chronicle continues in the award-winning fantasy romance novels Kismet's Kiss and The Source of Magic.

STORY SNIPPET:

Kismet's mind slowed; each beat of his pulse lengthened into an eon in which to gape. He blinked, yet the horror of his brother's arm was still there.

He dropped to the sunbaked turf beside his gasping twin. "Magic... We can mend this, can't we?" He sought for a spell, but fog shrouded his mind.

Though he'd denied it to Taso's own face, his brother was far superior at spells. Dread clogged Kismet's throat and he struggled for air.

"We haven't... the skill," Taso stammered. He tilted dangerously to the side. Kismet caught him and lowered him carefully to the ground. "The sword... more than steel. Was spell-bound."

A pool of crimson was spreading beneath Taso's limb, and every pulse beat sent another fresh flood into the grass. Despair wailed in Kismet's ears.

He wanted to say so many things to Taso, but his feelings tangled like ropes around his tongue.

His twin couldn't die. Couldn't. They were full-blooded immortals, imbued with endless life. Their birthright.

Yet Taso's birthright was gushing into the earth.
