Julia rebels and is drawn to Rome's poets and adventurers, one of whom is Iullus, Marc Anthony’s son, who ignites her awakening passions. She shares his interests and ideals but their mutual attraction complicates Julia's unsettled life, as Octavian has his own plans for her future. Defying her powerful father, the lovers meet clandestinely, in the forest at Satyr ceremonies, in abandoned temples, and on the Forum steps in the dark of night.
