They come from different worlds, though, far too diverse to ever make a life together. Or is that a lie? Sarah has no qualms about dumping her fiancé when he hardens his heart against Mairi, an orphaned child. And she has no hesitation about taking the child out of New York City and home to the beautiful mountains where her worried family is waiting. She's never let her lack of beauty bother her…too much. But when she meets Mairi's handsome older cousin Wyn, she finds herself wishing for a glimmer of prettiness to attract his attention.
Wyn has the pride of a mountain man, but the woman who brings Mairi home might just have more to her than an overflowing bank account. He's already had his fill of city women, though. He grits his teeth and fights his feelings with centuries of stubborn genes in his makeup when Sarah agrees to stay and teach the .. (Read more)

Initially when I started reading, I was thinking of Sarah, Plain and Tall. Though predictable, this book sticks really well to dialect and personalities of typical mountain people. I enjoyed it.

A lot longer than most of the books I tend to read, but I never became bored with it. Good characters(especially Sarah)that made a nice romance.

A nice romance without all the grunting and moaning. Sarah was a kind hearted rich woman who was wanting a husband but didn't want to come up under the edicts of a husband right after she was granted freedom when her father died. Wanting to help prideful mountain people gave her a look at how people very much unlike herself took pride in what they did and did not have. Everybody learned a little give and take and she finally found a man who would see her as an equal...mountain style. A good read.

I really enjoyed reading this book. You got caught up in the purpose of Sarah and her wanting to help because she cared. Yet you felt the pride and the reluctance of the mountain folks to not take charity. It was humourous at times, and heartwarming at others. The antics of the children was nicely woven into the story. Lastly, the blooming feelings that Sarah and Wyn had for each other and how they acknowledged those feelings was done very nicely.

A well-rounded book, with lots of angles and very well-written to bring it all together.
