Extended description

From the peril of the high seas to the urban landscape of Fairloch, capital of Aielund, Aiden Wainwright and his companions are charged with protecting the only heir to the throne whilst seeking out the conspirators that plot her capture, and who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.

Out of his depth in the largest city in the land, Aiden recruits the aid of the few allies he can find and trust; a sailor with a criminal past, an old knight close to retirement, a savage exiled from her home and a druid banished from her lands, her order falling toward darkness.

Combining their forces, they spearhead the investigation to track down the enemies of the crown and the powerful interests that support them, but while investigating the real reason behind the war in the west, Aiden discovers an enemy far more sinister than the petty villains who seek to seize power.

I bought this book after being drawn in by the cover and short description. I then realised that it was part of a series so I read the first book, "Nature Abhors a Vacuum" (which was being offered for free) before starting this one. The first book in the series was okay for a free book, but not something I would want to spend money on.
I was pleasantly surprised by the increase in quality for this second book. The writing was more polished, the characters more varied, and the plot more intriguing. All in all I quite enjoyed this book and am glad I came across it.

Not a bad read at all. Got hooked by the cheap first volume and had to purchase the sequels. Nice work. :)

Excellent Story. Having read the first book of the series I had to keep reading to see how the characters evolve and enjoy there continuing adventures. There's a lot of fantasy novels out there but not an awful lot that's any good so its a real pleasure to find the gems hidden among all the stones.

Traditional fantasy elements mixed with political intrigue and quite an easy read. Very enjoyable, a very good narrative structure/flow from chapter to chapter that makes it a real page turner. Elements will be familiar to those like me who played the RPG but this is not a simple conversion of a computer game to book format but very much a novel worth reading in its own right.

Stephen Nowland is a very talanted author; his books are epic, non-stop action that's hard to put down for silly things like sleep. The character interactions are wonderful, and the story is great. I just wish this book had been as long as the first!

excellent and well put together, something New and something old; a wedding of possibilities; good structure and plot, creating a world of wonderful fantasy.
