Carla is phone gossiping with best friend Tom, checking out lamps for her neon colored, modern lamp collection, when she meets Baseball Dude, a really unattractive guy known as, in Tom's words, "the coolest Yankee besides Derek Jeter." Pretending to like orange lamps, he strikes up a fake, flirtatious conversation trying to ask her out. She thinks he's really ugly and stupid, but Tom encourages Carla to lead him on because after all, Baseball Dude is really well connected. One change: she must at their dinner pretend she is a prude so she won't have to do anything intimate with him...but he turns out to be nice...and she feels bad for being mean to him.
