Short description

Serena's grandfather only has one rule: Don't open the Door in the Attic. But rules like that are made to be broken. Serena learns that the Door doesn't go anywhere, but it doesn't go nowhere.

Extended description

In Book I, Serena Doyle is an eighth-grader with several problems: she hates school, her father is shipping out to Afghanistan, and a strange man in black is trying to kill her. Adding to that is the mysterious Door in her dreams that keeps calling to her.

When she finds the Door in her grandfather's attic, Serena adds yet another problem: to solve the mystery of the Door would mean directly disobeying her grandfather. But her grandfather won't be around forever, and the Door keeps calling...

This is a pretty decent fantasy, targeted at younger readers. Typical story of a young teenager whose family are hereditary guardians of a magical world. While the story is theroretically fantasy, most of the book takes place in the real world and deals with the issues of a young girl.
