Description

Three fun, odd, and intriguing stories for kids age 8-12 by award-winning author Anne E. Johnson. "Airsick Over Planet Ekka" shows that not all aliens are used to flying in spaceships. In "Brains Coming Out of My Ears," a kid stands in line twice when they're handing out brains. "The Ballad of Honking Tim" is a rhyming story about an orphan who discovers he has a very unusual musical talent.

The three short stories in this collection make up a heck of a gigglefest. Kids aged 8-12 will enjoy the humor and wild setting tremendously. Protagonists here are children in scientific or fantastical setting, with conflicts and worries that children in the real world can connect with. In 'Airsick Over Planet Ekka,' RZ-6 has to face his fear of getting sick in front of his classmates on their shuttle trip to the awesome Planetary Rock Museum; in 'Brains Coming Out of My Ear,' we are shown a world where people are handed out brains, eyeballs, carelessness and Adam's apples (it's all pretty bizarre yet funny); in 'The Ballad of Honking Tim (my favorite title), Tim escapes from the orphanage and joins a circus show. His talent in honking leads him to the biggest show on Earth (hosted by 'Diamond Scowl').

I did get a little queasy with the brains oozing out of the ears, and the nose-honking performance bits, but I know kids have stronger stomachs and they'll love reading these stories.
