In Falling in Love with a Buddha, Frank recalls the world of Rinpoche’s life and teachings. In vivid and often humorous first-person accounts of the founding and evolution of Shambhala, he evokes the powerful and enigmatic presence of this unique teacher.

Their relationship is marked by great tenderness, by conflict, and by strokes of mutual insight as Frank’s father encounters the inscrutable force-field of Chogyam Trungpa. Berliner has written a vivid and moving account of his relationship with Chogyam Trungpa. It is skilfully interwoven with the story of Berliner's relationship with his own father, a pediatrician and hospital administrator. In many ways, Berliner's story is the archetypal boomer narrative--college, drugs, Vietnam draft fears, back-to-the-land utopianism, disillusion, encounter with the guru. What distinguishes Berliner's story is the maturity and intelligence of his writing and the authenticity of his commitment to the buddhist path. Highly recommended.
