My Best Friend's Heart
Chloe's best friend, Alice, is visiting for the night. Just like normal, except Chloe's finally admitted it to herself: she's in love with her friend. Will her confession shatter the best friendship she's ever had - or will it lead to the two friends discovering more about each other than they have before? "Why don't we… oh, I don't know, it's not like we can watch a movie or anything, is it." She sighs, leaning back in a stretch that makes her spine into an elegant swooping curve, like a brushstroke. You roll your shoulders to loosen them and move over to the couch, sitting down on one end and tucking your knees to your chest.
What you want to say is I love you and I think I've been in love with you for the last ten years and I didn't know it, but the words that leave your lips are "Well, we can always just talk, right?"
Alice smiles and takes a seat on the other end of the couch, sprawling out, and she says the worst possible thing that she could right now:
"Sure! So how's your love life going?" with her dish-the-gossip grin.
"Oh, you know, I haven't really been dating lately - I've just been busy…" You trail off and can't meet her eyes, hoping the dim light will mask it, but she looks puzzled. Damn it.
